One of Africa's largest wildlife reserves — grasslands, wetlands, rivers. Big five territory, plus a boat safari on the Rufiji.
The Selous Game Reserve is one of the big wildlife areas in Tanzania, located in the south. It covers about 50,000 square kilometers and is named after Frederick Courtney Selous, a British explorer and conservationist. Known for its wilderness — grasslands, woodlands, wetlands, rivers — and home to elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, wild dogs and numerous bird species. The Rufiji River flows through the reserve and provides a vital water source for the animals; boat safaris along the river offer a different perspective on wildlife viewing. Activities include game drives, walking safaris, boat safaris and fly camping.
Runs year-round, though we may reshuffle the order depending on wind, tide, and crowds. If you want something even quieter, ask about our off-peak versions — same places, fewer other boats.
